The renovation and addition to the existing Muesum of Art broke ground late 2016 and is anticipated to be completed in the spring of 2018.  “This will be a living museum—a museum unlike any other—yet one that is an extension of its place. The museum will breathe new life to the center of campus, already a hub of activity. The beauty of the Palouse and the Inland Empire—its light, colors and seasons – will be an integral part of the museum and serve to connect and open it to the campus, the region and the world. The building will feature an open and welcoming entrance that can serve as a destination gathering place for students, faculty and the public. New spaces will include permanent collection galleries, an outdoor sculpture garden and galleries for special exhibitions”. – Olson Kundig Architects

The museum permanent collection includes approximately 3,500 works. Among the most important are American paintings from the “Ash Can” School of the 1920s-30s; Goya’s “Los Disparates” print portfolio; 174 original photographs and prints by Andy Warhol; 201 works on paper by Jim Dine; a comprehensive collection of Northwest glass; and a recent gift of 39 works by Northwest artists from the Safeco collection.

Hoffman Construction Company, Design West Architects, and MW Consulting Engineers are joined with Design Architect Olson Kundig and Master Planning Consultants Gustafson Guthrie Nichol to provide design and construction services.
